Feeding the Hungry at First Lutheran Wednesday, February 15
LMIC will prepare and serve a hot meal to the hungry and homeless on Wednesday, February 15. On the menu: Hamburger Stew, Rolls, Salad and Valentine cookies prepared by the children at our preschool. Donations, cooks and servers are needed. Please see the bulletin board for details or contact Sandi Pontious in the church office (954-752-6566).
Keeping the Community on Their Feet
In February, LMIC is collecting new or barely used shoes, flip-flops, sneakers, flats in adult sizes and clean white socks for the homeless. Warm blankets and fleece throws (new or very clean) are also needed. Please bring donations to the Centrum by February 14th for delivery to First Lutheran Church along with the hot meal being prepared and served on February 15th.
Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper Tuesday, February 21
In a great mix of Lutheran tradition and New Orleans tradition, the youth attending this summer's Gathering will be hosting a Pancake Dinner on Tuesday, February 21st from 6:00-8:00 PM. Come and see what happens when these traditions collide! A free-will offering will be taken to benefit the 2012 ELCA Youth Gathering Fund.
Ash Wednesday Service Wednesday, February 22
We begin the season of Lent with Ash Wednesday Worship on February 22 at 7:30 PM. This year’s theme is “Come Back to Your True Self.” Please note: there is no soup supper on Ash Wednesday.
Mid-Week Lenten Opportunities February 29 – March 28
On Wednesdays during Lent (February 29-March 28), we will gather in the Centrum for Lenten Soup Supper and Fellowship at 6:30 PM, followed by Holden Evening Prayer & “Encounters Before the Dawn” at 7:30 PM in the Worship Center. Volunteers are needed (individuals or groups) to make soup, desserts, bread, set-up, serve the meal, and clean-up. If you can help, please sign up on the bulletin board.
Women2Women Book Club - Tuesday, February 28
On Tuesday, February 28, 7:00 PM, at the home of Sandy Betlach, discussion will be on the book, Invisible Thread by Laura Schroff and Alex Tresniowski. March’s book is Before I go to Sleep by S.J. Watson. The Book Club meets on the fourth Tuesday of every month (February 28) at a book lover’s home to discuss the book they’ve read that month and have some snacks. This is an open group meaning that there is no long term commitment. Participants are free to come and go as their schedules permit. Business Small Group - Thursday, February 23
The Business Group meets in the Church Office Conference Room on the last Thursday of the month (February 23) beginning at 8:15 AM, bringing business owners together in prayer and fellowship one morning a month to discuss running our businesses with Christian principles and ideals. Experts from a variety of relevant fields often lead informative and timely discussions (tax, insurance, health care specialists, etc.). For further information, please contact Chris Miller.
Healthy Habits Small Group - Upcoming Schedule
This group meets on Wednesdays in the church office conference room from 6:30—7:30 PM and provides information and support for living a healthier lifestyle. They are now including a series of devotions and Scripture readings to enhance overall healthy by including God in your walking/exercise time. Please note: Healthy Habits will not meet on Ash Wednesday, February 22. The following week, Healthy Habits will meet on Tuesdays during Lent (February 28 - March 27), same time same place. Semi-Annual Congregational Meeting Sunday, February 26
Since LMIC has moved to a Fiscal Year (August 1 – July 31) for budgeting purposes, the agendas for our two Semi-Annual Congregation Meetings have been adjusted. In accordance with our Constitution, a formal notice of this meeting was mailed to all Confirmed Members earlier this month. The mailing, sent via first-class mail to the current address on file in the church office, included the complete agenda along with the Proposed Changes to the Lutheran Ministry in Christ Constitution and By-Laws. To help us conserve resources, please bring the sheet containing the agenda and Proposed Changes to the Lutheran Ministry in Christ Constitution and By-Laws with you to the meeting on Sunday, February 26 at 12:30 PM.
All are welcome to join in the discussion(s) that will occur during the meeting; however, in accordance with our Constitution, only Confirmed Members may vote.
